De situatie in Syrië begint inmiddels flink uit de hand aan het lopen. Op dit moment worden er zware gevechten tussen het regeringsleger en de opstandelingen uitgevochten in verschillende steden, vooral te Aleppo. Als men de westerse media hierover volgt krijgt men een eenzijdig beeld – alsof de gewapende opstandelingen de demonstranten van het begin van de opstand vertegenwoordigen. De werkelijkheid is een stuk ingewikkelder. Daarbij komt dat iedere zijde in het conflict zich vooral bezighoudt met propaganda. In een oorlog is de waarheid de eerste die sneuveld. Meestal daarvoor al.
In de westerse media wordt vooral de propaganda vanuit de zijde van de rebellen herhaald. Vanuit het oogpunt van deze rebellen is het regiem van Assad vanzelfsprekend illegitiem. Men kan zich afvragen of de regimes van de ons westen bevriende regimes van Bahrein, Qatar en Saoedi-Arabië niet net zomin illegitiem zijn. De oorspronkelijke prodemocratie beweging in Syrië is inmiddels doodsbang geworden voor de door het westen (via Turkije) gesteunde militante islamitische rebellen, groeperingen als de moslim broederschap en de Salafisten.
Voor alle duidelijkheid, de massa´s demonstranten voor democratie op straat en de bewapende rebellen nu vechtend te Aleppo zijn niet dezelfden. Het simplistische en partijdige beeld in onze media is heel treurig, vooral voor het volk van Syrië voor wie de situatie dagelijks verslechterd. Door de rebellen militair en financieel te ondersteunen wordt de situatie voor de burgers steeds slechter. Verder wordt met de opbouw van NATO / Russische marine in de regio een oorlogsdreiging steeds groter. Deze situatie is levensgevaarlijk gezien de grote belangen die hier voor alle spelers in het Midden-Oosten op het spel staan.
Syrië is nu een speelbal geworden in de geo-politische en geostrategische belangen tussen de grootmachten USA (gesteund door Engeland en Frankrijk en Turkije) en Rusland, maar ook Israel, het soennitische Saoedi-Arabië + Qatar tegen het shiitische Iran. Verder heeft China een groot belang bij de olie leveranties uit deze regio. De situatie is inmiddels een internationaal etnisch religieus conflict met de petro-dollar en olie als inzet. Eerst en vooral… Syrie is een bondgenoot van Iran. Syrie is opzich niet interessant, maar het gaat om de geopolitieke spelletjes gericht tegen Iran, het verwerven van zijn olie en het breken van de grootste Iraanse olieimporteur China Al met al om de olie weer onder invloed van het Westen / VS te krijgen en hieraan gekoppeld het zien te handhaven van de Westerse hegemonie. Het gaat dus om resources (olie) en macht. Dit is een van de voorspelletjes in aanloop van een (mogelijke) oorlog tegen Iran.
En dat olie steeds belangrijker wordt is wel duidelijk, gezien we al voorbij de peakoil van de makkelijk winbare olie zitten en de prijzen van olie gerelateerde zaken steeds hoger worden. Olie is de smeerolie van onze economie en de olietoevoer zal alleen minder worden,terwijl meer landen verwachten te hebben wat we hier ook hebben. Daarbij zijn er geen echte alternatieven voor deze resources zoals olie. Ook de wil om tot ecologische, duurzame en menselijke transitie te komen is alom afwezig. Dus hier kan alleen maar nog meer heibel van komen.
Ook willen de BRIC landen zich steeds verder willen ontwikkelen (maar ook geremd worden door de wereldmarkt en resources) en aangezien we een aarde met steeds schaarsere resources hebben zullen er in de toekosmst steeds meer geopolitieke spelletjes en oorlogen gevoerd worden om die grondstoffen en daaraan gekoppeld de geopolitieke macht.
Let wel dat DDR / USSR regime van Assad is beslist geen lievertje, maar ik vrees eerlijk gezegd ook voor de opstandelingen.

@6 (Offtopic) Ik denk eerder zullen proberen om het Iraanse regime op allerlei manieren te destabiliseren, opdat het intern tot een regime wisseling komt. Zo kan men een risico van een oorlog voorkomen. En denk o.a. aan die drone die de Iraniërs in het voorjaar buit maakte. Dit is gewoon een onderdeel van deze campagne. Syrië is hier ook een onderdeel van.
Een oorlog is ook een potentieel risico dat China of Rusland er zich mee gaat bemoeien en dan heb je echt een probleem en dat wilt men niet.
En die kernwapens,…. Dat is volgens mij net zoiets als de chemische wapens in het buurland Iraq. Een slap excuus om tegen een land op te treden, zonder dat er ook enig serieus bewijs is. En Iran is geen agressor in die regio. De VS en hun Israël wel.
