2020 kan in de toekomst wel eens als een kanteljaar beschouwd worden. Het is het jaar waarin de institutionele participatie in de digitale wereld realiteit werd. En meer dan zichtbaar en openlijk. Van nay-sayers, ontkenners en zelfs fervente tegenstanders, maakten heel wat prominenten, personen en bedrijven volte face. Een draai van 180 graden van contra naar pro. Over het verleden heeft iedereen gelijk. Niets zo makkelijk om toekomstvoorspellingen te doen over…het verleden. Minder makkelijk is het correct (trachten te) voorzien wat er aankomt. Echte, realistische toekomstvoorspellingen afgeven dus. En zo werden er heel wat in verband met bitcoin et al, crypto, blockchain bewaarheid in 2020. Een blik terug op het verleden. Digitaal goud
Mike Novogratz, CEO and stichter van Galaxy digital holdings, noemde in 2018 bitcoin digitaal goud. De digitale munt zou het ook beter doen dan het gele edelmetaal. Ook dit is in 2020 realiteit geworden. We schrijven maandag 14 december dus dat jaar is zo goed als ten einde. ´Bitcoin has gone as far as outperforming gold in 2020. Returns from global stocks, bonds and gold commodities are up by 20%, while the Bloomberg Galaxy Crypto Index of digital coins has rallied by 65%.´ Cointelegraph.com. Ook de tweeling-miljardairs Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, co-founders of the Gemini crypto exchange, spraken zich in die richting uit. ´“Our basic thesis for Bitcoin is that it is better than gold,” said Tyler while speaking to the Financial Times back in 2016.´

In de eerste 10 maanden van 2020 werd voor 1,8 miljard dollar aan waarden verloren aan scammers, hackers en andere financiële boosdoeners. Het is daarmee het jaar geworden waarin het grootste bedrag aan crypto ooit gestolen is.
Miljonairs en miljardairs kopen bitcoin

De voorspelling in 2017 vanwege Didi Taihuttu (van The Bitcoin Family) kon ook tellen. 20.000 Dollar zou er neergeteld worden voor 1 BTC. Op een paar honderd dollar na is dat precies wat gebeurde.
